World Youth Chess Championship 2009, Kemer-Antalya, Turkey
First list of participants includes over 2000 players
The World Youth Chess Championship 2009 (under 8, under 10, under 12, under 14, under 16 and under 18 years old – open and girls) will take place in Kemer Antalya, Turkey, between November the 11th, 2009 and November the 23th, 2009.
The initial number of players and coaches that are going to be present at the World Youth Chess Championship 2009 (Turkey) is over 2000. The number is similar to the participants in the 2007 WYCC, while it is an increase to the 2008 WYCC, where the number of players and accompanying persons was a little over 1000.
In the U18 section the field is headed by IM Sasa Martinovic (ELO 2525) and GM Ioan-Cristian Chirila (ELO 2504), the young hopes of Croatian and Romanian chess. Favorites in the U16 section are GM Nils Grandelius (ELO 2515) and GM Samvel Ter-Sahakyan (ELO 2480). One of the clear favorites in the U14 section is IM Nijat Abasov (ELO 2525).
Among the girls, WGM Jovana Vojinovic is heading the U18 field, while among top seeded in the U16 section are IM Lisa Schut and WIM Padmini Rout. The U14 section has WFM Marsel Efroimski and WFM Katrine Tjølsen.
Famous coach names include GM David Arutinian, FM Michael Bucher, GM Artur Jussupow, GM Goran Dizdar, GM Nenad Fercec, GM Tomas Likavsky, GM Jayson Gonzales, etc.
