After the success from May 2012, where over 500 children from 38 countries competed in the World School Chess Championship, Iasi prepares for another big chess events: WORLD AMATEUR CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP, which will take place in April.
Therefore, the World Chess Federation (FIDE), Romanian Chess Federation, Iasi City Hall, Iasi County Council, Directorate of Sports and Youth Iasi, Iasi County Chess Association, CS Politehnica Iasi, Iasi, Children’s Palace will organize in Iasi since April 21, at the Sports Hall, WORLD AMATEUR CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP.
Is entitled to participate any player who has not exceeded 2000 points ELO regardless of age. Because of chess in school tradition in Iasi, many children expect to participate also parents, grandparents, from which we hope to bring back world title won in 2009, when Stefan Parlog from CS Politehnica Iasi, took first place, in Greece, Thessaloniki.
Until now signed up 123 players from 28 countries from different continents: Venezuela, Brazil, North America: United States, Mexico, Egypt, South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Mongolia, Syria, India, Iran, Brunei, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, New Zealand, UK, Sweden, Russia, Turkey, Moldova, Italy, Greece, Georgia, France etc.
Registrations will continue until March 4, 2013 when is the deadline and we hope to attract as many countries and as many participants in this event.
World Amateur Chess Championship is supported by SC Cotnari SA, SC Antibiotice, ANLU, TOTALGAZ Industry, Aqua Carpatica and Orange Romania.
