I just finished my 2-day visit to Texas Tech University! I have to say that I am extremely impressed with the University and everyone I met. I would like to thank Texas Tech for supporting chess and education. I am confident that there will be many big news to be announced at the appropriate time.
I have been all over Texas from Dallas, Corpus Christi, Houston, Brownsville, Austin to Lubbock, etc, in the past few years. I am so impressed with the big support for chess in the state. UTD took the lead in giving out chess scholarships and now UTB, Texas A&M and Texas Tech, etc., followed their lead.
This is so wonderful for chess!
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Being from The Republic, as a friend from Tennessee calls it, and being born in Lubbock to boot I am really grateful for your educational endeavors there, especially for the children. The university system there is really top notch and it’s good to see more of them offering chess scholarships.
This is clearly a chess player in the process of being “booked up” (for those of you who don’t know that means learning openings). Bookman (the statue) is one of many public art pieces on display on the Texas Tech campus. Perhaps one day chess pieces will pop as public art on campus.
