Why on earth is he not president of FIDE?
The first qualification for president should be the GM title.
Peter, I absolutely agree! Karpov should be president of FIDE. I’m not sure the president necessarily needs to be a GM, but he/she should be someone who has spent years as a player, and has been involved in FIDE tournaments at all levels and in a variety of roles. #1 qualification – a respected ambassador of chess.
Politics should not be a consideration.
