WEST JORDAN » A West Jordan boy has won a gold medal at the North American Youth Championship chess tournament.
It was Kayden Troff’s first appearance at a major international event. Troff held the No. 1 position in the country for age 13 and under playing quick games for six months.
The 11-year-old shared the medal with Virginia player Jeevan Karamsetty after a draw. Troff now gets the chance to represent the country at the Pan American Youth Championships in Brazil next year.
The tournament ran from Oct. 1-5. The U.S. delegation of 10 top-rated players brought home four gold medals and two bronze.

Nice job.
This is good news! (I live in Utah) At least there are a few smart people in this rather lame state….
