Chess performance by Jennifer Shahade, U.S. Chess Federation Chess Life Online Editor, of her creation of Naked Chess. She is also a poker player, author of chess book Chess Bitch, and a promoter of chess for young girls.
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
How popular is it and how did she come up with this?
Is this the official promotion from the USCF for girls?
If it were April 1, I would understand…
Loved her book on women’s chess and she’s great as an event host-commentator, but Shahade’s just adding to the aura of silliness that often surrounds chess with stunts like this.
Duchamp & the naked chess thing really don’t need to be revived.
Then again. there’s always the money angle.
What’s the big idea? Why bring sex into such a lovely game like chess and thus debase it? Isn’t there more than enough sex in the media,in most films and on the TV?

The USCF should promote this to all children. FIDE should also follow this example.
Put the word “naked” in front of anything and it will get 100% more attention.
Ms. Shahade’s creativity symbolizes the US Chess Federation.
Here’s a good review: http://nicechess.wordpress.com/2011/11/21/play-naked-if-you-want-to-be-remembered-for-that-alone/
Great idea, but better looking folks please.
Jen, Jen, Jen. You are supposed to strip your opponent’s KING naked!
The USCF should be proud of Jennifer. We need another 100 Jennifer Shahade representing the USCF.
The USCF should make Jen Shahade their President and Promoter in Chief. Would the entire USCF Executive Board pose for Naked Chess? This can be made into a USCF Chess Calendar.
Did you hear? The sequel to her book “Chess Bitch” is coming out just in time for holiday giving. It is called “Chess Nut.”
Everyone loves Jennifer Shahade. She’s the poster girl for brain, beauty, and everything else you can ask for.
This is not creativity. Taking your clothes off as a way of making money and gaining fame has been around a very long time. This is just a tacky stunt that should have been beneath an organization promoting chess to children and schools.
I disagree. The USCF needs fresh faces (or bodies) in this case. They’ve been run by old white racists and sexists for a long time. It’s time for women like Jennifer Shahade to be in charge. It’s time for this organization to be run by Jennifer Shahade, Ruth Haring, and Beatriz Marinello.
Re: “Ms. Shahade’s creativity symbolizes the US Chess Federation.”
You mean to say there is no creativity at the USCF, I take it. If so, we could not agree more.
A great move by the USCF to endorse naked chess.
I think this merely distracts from the game of chess. Really, what is the point? It may grab your attention because it seems so provocative, but in the end it adds nothing to the game. Stop the gimmicks. Play chess.
I can see the mans little pawn!
You know what? Chess is a serious game. If you want to get good at chess, you end up studying so much that, well, the monotony may get to you.
NOT EVERYONE WHO LOVES TO PLAY CHESS ALWAYS WANTS TO TAKE IT SERIOUSLY.
For example, there are some (casual, charity) Chessboxing events going on in LA. The rules of chess are mostly followed, but the goal is just to play with the idea.
Next step: naked chessboxing?
