Chess: Tradewise voted world’s best Open
The Association of Chess Professionals (ACP), the world’s leading body of chess players, organisers, and journalists, yesterday announced the results of its poll for events held during 2012, and for the second year running Gibraltar has come out top Open. With 769 votes cast, the Tradewise chess festival, held annually at the Caleta Hotel, once again received this prestigious seal of approval. As voted by ACP members, the top five chess Opens in 2012 were as follows:
1 Tradewise Gibraltar Festival
2 Aeroflot Open, Moscow
3 Reykjavik Open
4 Moscow Open
5 Biel Master Tournament
Festival Director Stuart Conquest, now resident in Gibraltar and busy in his new role as Community Chess Professional, said, “This is brilliant news. Each year we strive to give our chess visitors the best experience possible, and the results of this poll prove that we are doing a good job. It’s a team effort, so we can all feel proud.”
The 2014 Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival will take place from January 27th to February 6th, 2014.
