Thursday chess tactic Chess tactic, Puzzle Solving White to move. How should White proceed?1q4k1/5ppp/8/R4p2/P1p5/2B3P1/2P1P2K/8 w – – 0 1 Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
1.Be5 Qe8 2.Rb5 f6 or h6 3.Rb8! finish for blk
Be5 followed by Rb5. Black can’t both prevent mate with Rb8 or loosing the queen for a rook.
Rb5! and White wins.
Rb5 is wrong. Rb5? Qa2 Be5 h7 …
I think Be5 is the solution. After Be5 the Queen has to watch the 8th rank.
Be5 Qb7 Rb5 … is wining for white
Be5 Queen anywhere on the 8th rank Rb5 is winning for white

I believe first should be Be5,and only then Rb5 with next Rb8 winning queen and game.
if 1.Rb5 Qd6 2.Be5 Qh6+ 3.Kg2 f6 and black save queen
No, 1- Rb5? Qd6! (followed by a check on h6, and getting an opening for the king)
But after 1- Be5, the queen has to move but to protect a8 against the mate, and can’t do any anything against 2- Rb5…
1. Be5 Qe8 (Black queen cannot leave the first rank) 2. Rb5 and there is no way to avoid Rb8 winning
Be5 then Rb5
I think that Be5 is more accurate than Rb5. After Rb5 Qa7. After Be5 Qb7 Rb5
maybe Be5
After 1. Be5 the queen is lost with insufficient compensation.
For example, if 1… Qb7, Qc8, Qd8, Qe8, or Qf8 2. Rb5 threatens Rb8.
Or if 1… Qe5, then Re5.
