This will be quite an intriguing matchup: An outstanding attack versus an outstanding defender. I personally look forward to seeing this match. But will the off the board drama over shadow the on the board action? Will it take place in Bulgaria? Will the battle of their management teams over shadow the match itself?
What do you think? And what is your prediction of the match?
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
I’ve heard the match will be held in Ukraine, and I’m sure Gata will win it!
The match will be in Bulgaria for the simple reason that nobody else is willing to put money forth to see this match happen.
And who would? Why put money on a match that will only get attention in the last half if, and only if, Kamsky gets to put up a good fight? Lets don’t fool ourselves Topalov is the hands down favorite.
Just the fact that Topalov went overboard trying to make Kamsky look like a formidable oponent tells you how desperate this match is for some marketting.
Away from the board drama? You bet. That’s the way Danilov manages. And you like it or not, works for them in the form of money and invitations. And as much as I hate having to admit this, but if it wasn’t for Danilov this match wouldn’t take place, Kamsky owes his chance to continue in the WC road to Danilov’s management and Bulgaria’s will to help Topalov recover the crown.
Well, were it not for Danailov’s management, Kamsky would have been directly seeded into the final…
In case of a tie, a fight between Rustam Kamsky and Silvio Danailov should decide the outcome. That would liven up things…
I will never forget Topalov off-board tricks at Elista against Kramnik , but i have always admired Topalov’s as a chess player , his games and style is very attractive , and i think that in this match , Topalov stands reasonable winning chances against Kamsky who is a weaker performer in tournaments and not as brilliant tactician , but in my humble opinion , Kamsky will prove to be a very tough opponent in the match format even though i think that Topa is the favourite and should win .
If it is in Russia I am sure that the Kamsky side will use Deep Fritz and do it more intelligently than when Kramnik used it in Elista – hopefully over a wireless signal and not with an easily discovered cable. Now that the KGB has experience rigging chess matches they should make it even easier for their players to use computer aid.
The only hope is that Danilov can come up with counter measures quickly enough.
Kamsky is simply…the better chess player. Topalov blunders far too much for a GM. When he loses…he loses due to a silly blunder or “non-GM” oversight. When he wins, he does so by an all out attack…this style will get you no where….
and that’s why he was only the FIDE champion and never the World Chess Champion as Kasparov, Kramnik, and Anand are.
“FIDE” champion…it’s a joke. Only the heirs of Kasparov are the true world champions and the other are only pretenders from a corrupt organization.
Kamsky will defeat Topalov whether they play on the Moon or in Bulgaria. He’s better. He’s the better defender and due to Toppie’s stupid attacking blunders, Kamsky can win and then draw his way to victory….
and laugh all the way to the bank.
Let the match be played anywhere…on an boat in the pacific ocean…doesn’t matter…Kamsky will win the match.
Wait and see and all the Toppie lovers will be so sad when their paper-hero who often plays at no more than an National Master level (when he loses) is defeated.
And…when Kamsky does defeat Topalov…I think that’s going to be pretty much the end of any talk of Toppie and a future championship.
But, Kamsky will win…and will be the next WCC!
You can exclude Anand from that WCC group – he did not win via match. Any champion so crowned via a tournament is illegitimate, or insufficiently tested, in my book.
After – and only if – he defeats Kramnik, will he be a legit champ.

You are a complete and utter moron.
Chessdom as well as Bulgarian media has reported that Lvov, Ukraine either has presented or will present a bid with prize money ‘several times bigger’ than the Bulgarian bid .
Is this just a rumor? Chessdom´s report was pretty detailed …
atta can you give us a url
I do not find it at
http://www.chessdom.com/
the exact url of the discussion would be best.
For as much as I like Kamsky, and for as much as I really dislike Topalov’s manager…..I don’t think Kamsky can beat Topalov in this match. In my opinion, we are slowly heading down to an Elist rematch in 2009. I hope Topalov and Danailov show up to both matches with the attitude of winning the match in the chessboard….and not in the press room.

what can I tell you!, I am also a weaker performer in the tournaments I don’t get invited to
I kid you not!
he should win because he is the favorite?!
Never heard of this one before!, really
I think Topalov must start game with a 2-0 score to “guarantee” that he will not cry if Gata wins 2 in a row! (see Elista match of Kramnik vs Topalov how Topalov “cried” and how was happy to get a full point out of the board!)
The other thing is I have read a recent interview with Topalov. And it seems he was asleep during the interview. Because, he has said that Kamsky is a better match player then “Kramnik”. I laughed this sentence about 10 minutes 35 seconds! He is trying to make Kramnik got angry or is he trying to show that he is the best player if he wins over Kamsky lol hahahahah 🙂
Anyway Topalov is not at the level of Kramnik or Anand he can play with Kamsky who cares I will not follow the games it will be really boring and embarrasing to see how Topalov cheats there!
Alexander Chernenko, Gata Kamsky’s manager, claims in an interview with Russian “Sport Express” that match Kamsky-Topalov will take place in Lviv, Ukraine, for a prize fund “several times bigger” than 250.000 USD offered from Bulgarian sponsors.
As Chernenko told Yuri Vasiliev, who is very well informed journalist, the deal is “99.9% certain”, but he will publicly announce the details upon the bank guarantees arrival. Ukranian Chess Federation and Lviv City administration will coordinate the event.
Silvio Danailov, Veselin Topalov’s manager, was supposedly contacted on the same day but he didn’t comment on the speculation. He only used this opportunity to praise Kamsky’s warm personality and chess abilities.

To “Mark”
you said: “Any champion so crowned via a tournament is illegitimate, or insufficiently tested, in my book.”
I don’t think anyone really cares what is in “your book.” Or, what you think. Second, in many books by well respected authors, the heirs of Kasparov are considered and counted as the true “World Champion.”
This is not just my opinion, but in some chess books that list world chess champions…you don’t see the “FIDE Champions” from the 1990’s. Why? Because, FIDE champions where not truly “World Champions” but only FIDE champions.
Example…Karpov…he is considered to have been the WCC after Fischer…and he was the FIDE champion in the ’90’s…but he isn’t (and every chess lover knows it deep down), the “World Chess Champion” during the 1990’s…at any point.
Clear distinction between WCC and FIDE champion. Now, this is not to say anything at all negative about the FIDE champs. It’s all due to the corrupt history of FIDE. But, we know longer have to worry about who the true WCC is.
Currently, it is Anand. Soon, it will be someone else. But, at least there is no more schism and now there is only a single recognized world chess champion.
This is good for our sport…I think we can agree on this. Match, cycle, the method of getting to play for the WCC is a completely different story. But, it is an important one.
So, we’ll just wait and see Kamsky defeat Topalov and the rest….it’s too unpredictable at this point.
I`m sure Topalov will win without any problems
Hi,
Toplov were played in Russia,
Kamsky can play in Bulgaria.
Kamsky has won the match vs Kramnik, so he is better matchplayer then Kramnik.
Kramnik has won vs Kasparov but not vs Karpov. After the split there were no true champions.

“Kamsky has won the match vs Kramnik, so he is better matchplayer then Kramnik.”
That is not a correct approach the mentioned so called match was a 6 game event and it was during a candidates elemination system not a real Champion’s Final Fight!
Besides this time Kramnik was 19 years old and Kamsky was 20 so they were new stars rising. But now between Kramnik and Kamsky there is a huge difference. In that period Kramnik won 2 matchs and drew one, in that time Kramnik won countless big events several times. In that time Kramnik exceed 2800 and seems after an unfortunate decrease because of his illness he seems to reach 2800 again in near future!
Kramnik is not Kramnik that Kamsky had beaten in 1994 we are now 14 years later and in that time Kramnik grew in all meanings so let you say what is the Kamsky today?
Saying Kamsky is better match player is just a funny idea that not only a chess player but also a kid on the streets can not say such a foolish thing (but Topalov did lol)
So say if Kramnik would play today with Kamsky a match sure score will be 8-4 or something like this in favor of Kramnik!
Don’t make funny comments please!
“what can I tell you!, I am also a weaker performer in the tournaments I don’t get invited to
I kid you not!”
lol , i too don’t get invited , doesn’t mean i’m better than the top 3 (Kramnik , Anand , Topalov ) consistently proving for years that they are above the rest …
If he doesn’t get invited , there must be a reasons , i kid not …
Yes , the favourite should win , because the favourite is a stronger tactician .. simple . The only case Topalov will lose IMO , is if he’s really tired because his style is very demanding in energy and he played a lot recently , but to this day (29-04-2008 )Topalov is a better chess player , this is not debatable for me .
Only reason i said it would be a tough match is because Kamsky is a strong defender and has had god results in his youth at this exercise , he’s strong in his head and his style could prove to annpoy Topalov’s , but i maintain that i expect Topalov to win even though i dodn’t appreciate what his side did at Elista around the board because they were losing ..
29-03-08 sorry ;D i wrote quickly
Sausage nose?
Sorry, guys, Kamsky is no match for Topalov. He’s gonna lose heavily, be it in Lvov, Sofia or wherever else.
Topalov is two classes above!
