Here are the 7 new wonders of the world:
Chichen Itza, Mexico
Taj Mahal, India
Machu Picchu, Peru
Christ the Redeemer, Brazil
The Colosseum, Italy
Petra, Jordan
Great Wall of China
The Great Pyramids of Giza, the only surviving structures from the original seven wonders of the ancient world, kept their status in addition to the new seven. The sites were selected according to a tally of around 100 million votes cast by people around the world over the Internet and by cellphone text messages, the nonprofit organization that conducted the poll said.
Landmarks that were nominated for the contest but that did not receive enough votes to place them among the final seven were the Acropolis, the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the stone statues on Chile’s Easter Island, Australia’s Sydney Opera House, Cambodia’s Angkor, Spain’s Alhambra, Turkey’s Hagia Sophia, Japan’s Kiyomizu Temple, Russia’s Kremlin and St. Basil’s Cathedral, Germany’s Neuschwanstein Castle, Britain’s Stonehenge and Mali’s Timbuktu.
Here is the full story. Do you agree with the 7 choices?
Here are the original 7 wonders:
The Great Pyramid
The Lighthouse
The Colossus
The Hanging Gardens
The Temple of Zeus
The Temple of Artemis
The Mausoleum
I agree with all the choices.
What is actually the point of having “new” 7 wonders? There is no comparison with the ancient 7 wonders anyway. Other than that, it was conducted by a private organization, without counting double votes, etc. So, what is the point?
“What is the point?” – what kind of question is that? Come on…
I agree with the choices – specially with wonderful Macchu-Picchu. I would only replace Petra by Easter Island. Those stone heads are amazing.
This is why Susan is unfit to lead the USCF. This is a chess blog. Who cares about the 7 wonders of the world? Real men care about chess. This is why we must elect 4 real men like Schultz, Lux, Jones and Berry. They won’t stand for nonsense like this.
Each time people like the one above make such embarrassingly unintelligent and incomprehensible comments, it almost ensures a vote for Susan and her team, as no one would want the kind of mentality displayed above having any kind of ruling voice.
Keep posting my friend 🙂
Here we go again, cowardly anonymous people attacking at every single opportunity even when it’s just an innocent post that had the attention of hundreds of millions of people around the world. We can see that they’re already out of ideas and have to resort to something like this. We’re discussing about the seven wonders of the world, anonymous, and your post is out of topic. Take your attacks to appropriate channels. You are so low.
Anyway, I would have loved to have Easter Island to be among the seven. And I never heard of Macchu-Picchu before the polls.
8th Wonder of The World would have to be The Polgar Chess Center
I disagree with this list!
Any “Wonders of the World) list not including the Polgar sisters is at best incomplete!!
It drives me nuts when people demand purity of subject matter from a blog. All chess and no play makes Jack a dull boy. … And if you just can’t get enough wonders today, here is another such list: “The 7 Wonders of the Internet.”

Anonymous@11:48:00pm: That’s a really cheap way of doing your politics in this blog. Who cares about what you think? It is not your blog, it’s Susan’s blog and she can post whatever she thinks is interesting for the intellect of chess players and enthusiasts. Wake up, life is not only 1.e4 or 1.d4.
I desagree with Christ the Redeemer, Brazil. I am brazilian, and for me the Christ the Redeemer is just a big statue. Comparing Christ the Redeemer with Great Wall of China is a kind of joke. I think that the Christ got a lot of votes because Brazil is a big country, with a lot of people living in it. In this moment there is a lot of brazilian patriot people very happy.
it was said that people sneered at the nomination for the statue of liberty. the statue of christ the redeemer is more laughable!
