Even though I have no choice but to discuss about the upcoming critical USCF Executive Board election, the most important USCF election in a long time, I will try to post as little as possible on this blog.
The new twist is some of the USCF EB members want to stop the momentum of scholastic chess by taking away the opportunities for young players to earn hundreds of thousands worth of college scholarships.
This has been advertised by the USCF:
Annual Susan Polgar National Invitational for Girls
7/29 – 8/3 2007
Crowne Plaza Philadelphia-Cherry Hil
l2349 West Marlton Pike
Cherry Hill, NJ 08002
1-800-227-6963 – $114 chess rate
Polgar Details & Rules
This is a USCF sanctioned national event which my foundation, the Susan Polgar Foundation, and I funded for the past 3 years as well as this year. We have awarded more than $200,000 in college scholarships (UTD), cash scholarships and many other chess prizes. This is an event that motivates girls from across the country to play and stay in chess. Thousands of girls compete in regional, state and national events to qualify for this prestigious event.
I had to fight tooth and nail just to get this event off the ground in the first place. Some people did not want to see all-girls events exist. But it did and it became the most successful all-girls tournament.
After I made a decision to save each parents at least $1,000 in lodging and meal starting from next year, some of the Executive Board member decided to retaliate. This is a motion that was made by one of the board members with no objection by the other board members in spite of the fact that the USCF entered into a legal contract to sanction this event until at least 2009:
“Accordingly, I make the following motion: Resolved that the “Polgar” tournament is no longer a USCF National event and that the Polgar Committee is hereby disbanded.”
The level of destruction is simply incredible. Instead of helping the scholastic and college chess community, they want to hurt it. They are asking you to vote for them so they would have another 4 years of destruction.
A lot more information can be found here.
It is not chess CORRUPTION, at this point it is chess DESTRUCTION !!!
Susan, thank you for fighting for all of us. Please hang in there for another 2 months. We’ll get your team elected so you can clean up this disgusting federation. You’re the only one who can do this. Don’t give up.
Go Susan, Mikhail, Paul and Randy!
Dear Susan,
You have my divine support.
Warmest Regards,
King.
I would never vote for Sam Sloan, Joe Lux or Stephen Jones. These are the people who are endorsed by the same group of chess politicians. A vote for them is a vote to retain the destruction and stupid chess politics.
I’m not voting for Schultz even though he’s qualified unless he speaks out against this nonsense and support Susan. Silence to me means he’s endorsing this type of chess politics.
Goodall is simply not qualified to even serve on this board. The only choices are: Polgar, Korenman, Truong and either Bauer or Berry.
Can anyone tell me what Jones, Lux, Sloan and Goodall done for the USCF in the past few years?
The only good candidates IMHO are Korenman, Polgar, Truong, Bauer, Schultz and Berry.
I’m leaning toward Berry, Truong, Polgar and Korenman for now.
The USCF chess politics is really low. I can’t understand why they want to chase away a superstar who wants to help US chess. Just a dumb move by a bunch of clueless people.
I can’t believe these people. I’m very disappointed to see Goichberg and Schultz stoop this low in allowing the convicted felon Sam Sloan to destroy their opponents on their behalf. This is truly pathetic.
A bunch of sick people doing this to kids.
How can the board do this when more than half of the members are kids? Why hasn’t Bill Goichberg speak out about this? I guess he’s supporting Sam Sloan. After all, he’s the one who fought hard not to accept the sponsorship package.
Susan, don’t give up! Fight them all the way. You’re our only voice.
Susan, This is emergency. Do we still send our representative to this event?
Jason Qian
Director, Arkansas Scholastic Chess Association
Yes, nothing will change. I am prepared to go to court to fight for our kids if they pull this stunt. I am prepared to fight for the rights of our kids all the way. I hope the scholastic community can clearly see the incredible misconduct of the board members.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar

This federation can no longer endure this. This board has to go. We need to elect all 4 of Susan’s team (Korenman, Truong, Bauer and Polgar) to stop this destruction. The board has gone way to far this time.
Time to start a new federation! I’ll be happy to write the software.
Dishoning scholastic chess tournaments for what reason? What does this mean? Is the USCF falling apart due to silly internal disputes, petty pickering and envy of those who are sucessful? Who passed the motion? What does the scholastic committee think about this? What does the college committee think? This is very worrysome since it could spell the end of the USCF. This could scare sponsors away from the USCF big time. I bet there are many sponsors out there interested in scholatic chess.
Was the motion passed? That is the critical question. Bringing up a motion is one thing, passing it another.
Utterly disgraceful! Susan, you have my unfailing support and best wishes as you fight against this corruption.
Good luck on the election!
