What are some of the biggest chess moments in the US in 2007? Here are some came off the top of my head:
– Kamsky winning the World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk
– Nakamura dominance in Europe
– Bercys, Smith, Tate, Robson, Bradford earning the IM titles
– Kraai, Gonzalez, Bhat earning GM titles
– Perelshteyn winning SPICE Cup in Lubbock
– Shabalov and Krush winning US and US Women’s Championship in Stillwater
– Naroditsky gold and Chiang silver at the World Youth in Turkey
– The birth of SPICE
– Gulko winning the US Open
What else can you add to this list?
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Well done Gata!
No brainer. Kamsky winning the World Cup.
It’s obvious – Gata! I don’t think there is anyone thinking different.
It’s been a pretty good year overall for U.S. chess. We have a World Championship contender, the reemergence of Nakamura, very good future prospects in Robson, Naroditsky, Chiang, Melekhina, new U.S.-developed GMs in Bhat and Kraai, people like Tate and Bradford achieving goals even in adulthood, and of course SPICE in further developing chess in the country. The only regret is that we lost Caruana to Italy.
Bhat won his GM title!? I totally missed that. He used to be in my school’s chess league.
S. Polgar elected to USCF Board?
Gata!
Come on US Media! This is a big News!
Where are you?
I thought Bradford’s IM title was rejected by FIDE.
go get vesko!
I thought Bradford’s title application was rejected. But I guess I would put USCF’s failure to be a good National Federation on the list.
Boris Gulko winning the U.S. Open. Given the competition, it must be considered a significant accomplishment.
Hello Susan Polgar,
Do you have a mirror, specifically:
http://www.susanpolgarblog.com/
I searched google looking for your site and that address was the top of the list. The above site does not have encryption on in the post section. Also, I recently searched with google again and the above site no longer appears!
My concern is if the above site is not an official mirror of yours then I have reason to believe it is(was?) a phising site. It also means the goolge address is messed with, maybe dns poisoning. If that is the case I intend to bring the matter to the authorities.
Sorry for going off topic and thanks in advance.
Horribly off topic, I know, but I saw you on “My Brilliant Brain”! Good job. Nice brain. 😛
Sorry – I don’t think the Memorial Tournament for Sammy Reshevshky (aka ‘The SPICE Cup’) particularly registered on the seismometer.
Rybka defeat in Mexico
SPICE Cup is the strongest invitational in the US in the last 5-6 years, it’s news.
I think it is Jesse Kraai, not Kraii
Unquestionably it must be Kamsky winning the World Cup.
He is now one match victory (VS Topolov) away from playing for the World Championship (by any definition).
Opponent would be winner of Anand (reigning world tournament champion) VS Kramnik (reigning world match play champion).
Basically he is at the same stage as Fischer vs Petrosian. No American has been anywhere near this close in 35 years.

The SPICE Cup was the most important chess moment in the US!
It put chess at a new level by hosting a chess tournament at a major university! The biggest in several years, I am sure.
Brava Susan!
Where is that sculpture from?

but then i will counted Naroditsky
World Youth Gold Medal, it was very tough competition

Where is that sculpture from?”
It looks like it is from planet Neptune. It looks like the scary clown that used to stalk me in my dreams when I was a disturbed child.
NO more clowns… no more clowns… no more clowns… ugh.
