Team Gambia At the 41st Chess Olympiad in Tromsø, Norway
As was to be expected, the Gambian chess team found the going tough in the early rounds of the 41st Olympiad in Tromsø, Norway.
After missing Round 1 owing to visa problems, the team comprising Ebrima Bah, Joseph Dalliah, Momodou Bittaye, Elimon Lemon and Jalamang Jallow, played Andorra, a small European country, in Round 2.
After a hard struggle the Gambians went down to a 4-0 defeat.
In Round 3, Gambia played Surinam, a South American country. Another hard struggle ended with the same result.
In Round 4 on 5th August, Gambia was due to play San Marino, another small European country.
The Gambian Chess delegation is headed by President Alh Antouman Njie and other members of the association such as Amadou Jallow, 1st vice President as Captain, and Habib Mboob, auditor as coach.
Chief arbiter David Sedgwick is really helping the team a lot in Tromso, Norway.
The delegation, which left The Gambia last Thursday, is expected back home in two weeks’ time.
