Don’t like the format but Tan played wonderful chess and deserved to win. She must have strong nerves along with talent. Congratulations to the new World Champion !!
I despise the format, and the “title” is meaningless. Hou is the real champion, and she will undoubtedly clobber Tan mercilessly if they play a match next year.
That said, I agree with Ernie’s comments about Tan’s nerves. I believe she had two “Armageddon” games en route to the finals, and she won this last match via a rapid tiebreaker.
She is a third line China Olympia player after Hou Yifan and Ju Wenyun and yet be able to become World Champion. She played the most matches and with a good nerve to beat all the top seeded player.Congratulations to Tan Zhongyi. Well deserved!
