Tournament takes stress out of chess

FORT THOMAS – For 22 years, elementary school chess players in Fort Thomas have had a final tournament to show off their moves.
But no matter how well they do on the board, all of them leave winners.
The chess clubs at Woodfill, Moyer and Johnson elementaries are sponsoring the Fort Thomas Annual Chess Tournament next week, where every participant goes home with a trophy.
“The emphasis is more on enjoying the evening,” said Woodfill coach Ed Long, founder of the tournament. “The students have been playing competitively all year and this is their chance to relax and enjoy the game of chess.”

I don’t understand. What’s the use of a trophy for just showing up? After one has collected 5-6 trophies, where does one find room to display the darn things?

Rather than going to the “tournament”, why not just order the trophy on the web and have it delivered by FedEx? Saves a lot of bother.
