IM Siddharth Ravichandran upset top seed GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly in the 7th round of the SREI International Grandmasters Chess Tournament at Kolkata Town Hall on Wednesday.
The 10-round Grandmasters’ chess tournament is organised by Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy in association with Allsport Foundation.
Meanwhile IM Jacek Stopa of Poland emerged as the sole leader with 6,0/7 points as he got the better of local GM Deep Sengupta in a sharp interesting encounter which arose from a Reti opening. Stopa won a piece in the middle game and later consolidated his extra material win in 33 moves.
