Nepali becomes youngest Grand Master
Nepalnews.com, Nepal
Anish Giri has become the youngest Grand Master (GM) in a prestigious chess tournament organised at Wijk Aan Zee, Holland by beating GM Edurado Iturrizaga of Venezuela.
Born to a Nepali father and a Russian mother in Holland, Anish completed his final norm on Saturday by beating GM Iturrizaga at the age of 14 years, 7 months and two days. It was a tough game wherein Anish turned the tide in mutual time scramble.
Anish thus became the youngest Grandmaster in the world presently having completed the title requirements in the 11th round of the traditional tournament. Anish is also one of those players who earned a GM title without being awarded the title of an International Master.
His virtual rating of 2528 has made him the 12th youngest grandmaster in history.

Just curious Susan, do you have a list of players who skipped the IM title and immediately became a GM? Mikhail Tal, Larry Christiansen, and Garry Kasparov are just some of the few that I know. Do you know others?
He is not Nepali, he is Russian. Just like Susan Polgar is American.
you are a dufus are you not.
anis is half nepali.
susan is hungarian by birth.
Hou Yifan also skip IM and go directly to GM. I think she is the first female to do so. She did quite well in Corus with two super GM scalps!
susan is hungarian by birth…a naturalized american but have a jewish heritages same as kasparov, fisher, Tal?,..speilberg,einstien who else, king solomon…best mind in the world..now i really believed they are the chosen poeple/…
Considering what the Jews have suffered, better to not be Chosen perhaps.
“you are a dufus are you not.
anis is half nepali.
susan is hungarian by birth.”
And you are a moron, are you not? Yes, Susan is Hungarian by birth but then Giri is by birth a Russian. He was born in St. Petersburg. So your analogy is self-defeating. Born in Russia, raised in Russia, trained in Russia, speaks fluent Russian, naturalized citizen of Russia, plays for Russia, hardly speaks any Nepali. He is much more Russian than he is a Nepali. Do you also call Barack Obama half-Kenyan or do you call him American?
dufus read my lips:
giri’s dad is nepali
his mom is russian
compute man
half nepali, half russian
capisce?
ok ok the boy is doing good. Kenyans are proud of Obama and Nepal is proud of Giri. Leave it at that. Sure all that Russian training has worked wonders.
well..I am not sure how much ‘Russian training’ worked for him..he started chess at 7 and was trained in a local chess school in St.Petersburg seemingly for a short time. As he told in his interview he went to Japan at 8 with his family in 2002…after that he has not even resided in Russia properly (only time to time for short period)..he did not have any trainer (still does not have any trainer)..he is working by himself…even now he has not been highlighted much in Russian chess media..why? He is the youngest GM in chess history of Russia…this is supposed to be a big news for them…For Nepalese his success is indeed a matter of proud as his origin is Nepalese!..and now he is residing in Holland…now he is fluent in Russian…after 5 years he will be fluent in Dutch…so what…anyway, interesting story..isn’t it?
