A contestant managed to guess all of the remaining consonants in the puzzle word, and to buy all of the vowels. Thus, to claim the megaprize, all she had to do was read the word directly from the game board. She mispronounced it (badly). Accordingly the next contestant, who said it correctly, won instead. The word was “pristinely”. The first contestant said “pressed-in-nelly”.
Hooked on Phonics worked for her.
Hooked on Ebonics failed for her.
i once saw a person on czech wheel of fortune guess terribly the consonants and could buy no vowels.
for her the word was:
– – – – – – – – K
she just laughed and waved her hands in resignation and shot out:
S L U N E C N I K
and…. she GOT the price!! the most amazing thing ever…
My wife and I were watching WoF the other night and it was a current but repeat episode. The contestant was on a roll and was up to almost $30,000 (she rolled several big-dollar spins). She had one or two letters missing and it was clear what the phrase was. The last word in the phrase was ‘beach’ and she said ‘beaches’ and lost her turn. My wife and I were in utter disbelief!
