My way to mate after 1. Be8+, Nxe8 (if Kc5 I wanted to proceed with Qc7+ followed by Qxc6#) was 2. Qxd5+, Kc7 3. Qd8+, Kc6 4. Qd7+, Kc5 5. Rc3+!, Rxc3 6. Qd4+, Kc6 7. Qxc3#
Looks as if there are several ways to mate in the lines after Be8+.
By the way what was the last black move in this “not real” game? 🙂 Was it f7-f6 overlooking the mate beginning with Qxh3+? 😉
Ah, you’re right ano nomber 4, my solution was wrong as there is a discovered attack bishop b7 to the white king. So better play a different line Yancey points out not my wrong one.
Be8+
Yes, Be8 looks like the move:
1. Be8 Kc5
2. Qe7 Kc4
3. Qb4#
and if
1. Be8 Ne8
2. Qe8 Kd6
3. Qe7 Kc6
4. Re6#
or
1. Be8 Ne8
2. Qe8 Kc5
3. Qe7 followed by mate
and finally,
1. Be8 Ne8
2. Qe8 Kc7
3. Re7 Kd6
4. Qd8 Kc5
5. Rc7 Bc6
6. Qe7 Kc4
7. Qb4#
a little bit more accurate is
1. Be8+ Nxe8
(otherwise Dxc7+)
2. Dxd5+ Kc7
3. Dd8+ Kc6
4. De8+
and soon mate
sorry a small mistake in my previous analysis as Dd8+ is not possible.
1. Be8+ Nxe8
2. Dxd5+ Kc7
the correct move is
3. Te7+ Kc8 (or Kb8)
4. Dxb7#
