Round 5: Thursday, February 22nd
Peter Svidler – Peter Leko
Magnus Carlsen – Veselin Topalov
Alexander Morozevich – Vassily Ivanchuk
Levon Aronian – Vishy Anand
Can Topalov finally win his first game or will Magnus continue his good play? Will the Svidler – Leko matchup be a short one? The most interesting matchup today would be Morozevich versus Ivanchuk? Can Ivanchuk bounce back after losing to Magnus with the White pieces or will Morozevich win his first knockout? Can Aronian stop the Anand machine? What are your predictions?

I fear it will be only draws today. Maybe Anand will win, but I doubt it.
Sure hope I’m wrong though.
Whats happening to the #1 🙁
Boring draws and a blunder so far.
Please bring back 1.e4 !
Wish List time again. A bad day for Chucky’s chances yesterday.
½-½ Svidler – Leko
1-0 Carlsen – Topalov
0-1 Morozevich – Ivanchuk
0-1 Aronian – Anand
Looks like the top GMs are taking too many risks against the only weak player in te tournament (Carlsen). Carlsen is profiting from these risks. The question is: will Topalov go for too much also?
First, Carlsen is hardly a weak player. Second, it seems to me that Carlsen is the one taking risks … and he is justly awarded.
Hi,
Is there, anywhere on the net, a verbal commentary (not just move annotations)
on the Morelia tournament ?
I hope that I made the question clear. sorry for my meager vocabulary.
Susan’s short questions on the games are great ( e.g. Can Aronian stop the Anand machine? or the like) but I want more “meat” descriptions and analysis on the “goings” over there.
“Carlsen is profiting from these risks. The question is: will Topalov go for too much also?”
We’ll see. He really put his head in the noose against Topalov last time. Maybe he’s learned something from it.
“Whats happening to the #1 🙁

People draw undeserved conclusions from small samples. A 4 game run is almost meaningless.
Besides, the World Champion is the real #1.
Peter Svidler – Peter Leko 1/2
Magnus Carlsen – Veselin Topalov 1/2
Alexander Morozevich – Vassily Ivanchuk 1/2
Levon Aronian – Vishy Anand 1/2
Magnus Carlsen – Veselin Topalov
Alexander Morozevich – Vassily Ivanchuk
Theses 2 games will be fought to a win. Either side can win.
the other 2 games will draw.
Magnus is in good fighting form. He almost had 3 wins. He will fight again. Normally I would pick Topalov but he is not playing well without his cell phone friend.
Both Moro and Chuky need a win right now. This could be a good battle.
Peter Svidler – Peter Leko 1-0 (of course!!!)
Magnus Carlsen – Veselin Topalov 0-1 (bad luck – but probability…)
Alexander Morozevich – Vassily Ivanchuk 0-2 (hehe – chucky the doll rules!)
Levon Aronian – Vishy Anand 1-0 (Berlin @ night or knight or was it Merlin … i’m confused ???)
sincerly, yours Vohaul
carlsen vs. cheatalov? Can I cheer for 0-0 somehow? these are my least two favorites players
Interesting quote off Magnus website.

>> Topalov probably had a somewhat better position after the opening, but must have lost the thread somewhere, as both Fritz and others thought Svidler was better when he accepted Topalov’s draw offer. >>
I was under the impression that Topalov fought to the end and here we find him offering the draw. Something is not going right for Topalov. I never thought of him offering draws.
To the anonymous who had asked for verbal commentry:
ICC, chesstelevision.com and playchess all three offer verbal commentary.
until now every round had at least one winner, but i think this time it will only be draws 🙂
let’s see
