Kids challenge adults in chess for fundraiser

RAPID CITY – Wanted: Challengers bold enough to sit across the board from elementary and middle school chess players in a Chess-A-Thon from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m Saturday at Rushmore Mall near the entrance to J.C. Penney.

Chess players from Grandview Elementary School and South Middle School will take on all comers. The students have taken pledges for their playing time and welcome the practice.

“We want as many people as possible to play so the kids don’t have to play the same person twice,” Cindy Foust said. Foust is a proud parent of a member of the chess club.

Anyone interested in playing with the students is invited to join them for a game or two of chess Saturday.
