how does f5 win??? after rook takes rook with check force queen to take back and then white loses that f5 pawn and position is a mess…I will look at puzzle more but I am sure f5 does not win
Hmm, let me correct my previous post since I see now I made a bunch of errors .I completely forgot that white couldn’t play 4.Qe7 since black’s queen is guarding that square. However, the first couple of moves were correct.
The correct analysis is this:
1.RxR+ BxR 2.f5 Qg5 [or Qg4] ( 2…Qh6 loses to 3.Qe2 Bd7 (or any other move) 4.Qe7 and wins; now 2…Qg4 3.h3 Qg5 and the same line follows)
3.Qe2! and wins
And now black has a couple of options:
a)3…..Qd8 4.Qg4 Qe7 5.f6 and wins
b)3…..Bd7 (or any other bishop move in that diagonal) 4.f6 gxf6 5.Qh5! Qg7 6.Qh4! wins
Hmmm, I come directly from a silvester’s party (4 o’ clock in 2008 here ;)) so no guarantee of correctness but can’t white simply play 1. RxR, BxR 2. f5 as suggested and now Q anwhere (!) 3. Bxg7+! Qxg7 4. f6 with no need to (puh many words are missing, I feel the alcohol :)) differ the black answers!?
You are right Jochen, that’s the line! In my line after 3.f6 there is Qxd5+. Year 2008 also started here too many hours ago, I’m not in my sharpest mood…

The guy can play chess drunk! I would love to see David Beckam play soccer drunk!
Good point, ano 8:25. Nd3 gives another nice clew of that variation. The simple 3. fxg6, Nxb2 4. Bxb2 with one figure more for white should be a prosaic win but I think (after 2. -, Nd3) 3. Qa1!! Nf4+ 4. Kh1 goes back to the old winning variation.
1.f5 wins

I am looking at rook takes rook check then bishop takes rook and then queen to e2 to attack bishop but I am not sure if this is right…still looking
I think Rxe8+ followed by f5. Since the black queen cannot take, f6 wins!
okay maybe combine first post and my idea….rook takes rook bishop takes rook THEN f5 🙂
1.RxR+ BxR
2.f5 Qg5 [or Qg4] ( 2…Qh6 loses to 3.Qe3 Bd7 (or any other move) 4.Qe7 and wins; now 2…Qg4 3.h3 Qg5 and the same line follows)
3.Qe2! and wins
The reason is that white intends to play 4. Qe7 and there is nothing black can do without losing material.
Ex:
3…..Qd8
4.Qg4 wins since black can’t stop mate on g7.
3…..Bd7
4.Qe7 h5
5.Qf8+ Kh7
6.Qg8+ Kh6
7.Qh8+ Kg7
8.Qxg7#

Like masegui said, 1.Rxe8 Bxe8 2.f5 Qg5 3.f6 is the correct line. If 3.Qe2, Bh5! gives black time to defense.

Impressive!
1.Rxe8+ Bxe8
2.f5 Nd3

PS: thanks for the compliment, Quetzaquotal!
3.Qa1!!
Is this true? Doesn’t Black come out ahead after
1.Rxe8+ Bxe8
2.f5 Nd3
3.Qa1 Qg5
4.Bxg7+ Qxg7
5.f6 Qf8
6.f7+ Ne5
7.fxe8=Q Qxe8
?
Probably you’re right, I did not ue a check board so this defense didn’t come to me mind.
Would be a pity if only the prosaic fxg6 would win.
Thanks for showing up, I’ll retry later with a board (if I can find some here ^^).
Greetings
Jochen
