—National junior champion Paulo Bersamina and six other Filipino pacesetters try to ward off their pursuers when the Asean age-group chess championships resume with the sixth round Wednesday at the Traveler’s Hotel here.
Bersamina, at 12 the youngest ever Philippine junior winner, stakes the solo lead when he battles Amir Badkoubi of Iran in the boys’ 12-and-under category starting at 9 a.m.
Also bidding to stay on top of their respective divisions are Richelieu Salcedo in the boys’ 20-under, Prince Mark Aquino and Jan Nigel Galan in the 16-under, Giovanni Mejia in the 14-under and Marie Antoinette San Diego and Samantha Glo Revita in the girls’ 12-under.
Tipped to become the country’s next Wesley So, Bersamina has 4.5 points on four wins and a draw.

There are many future Wesley So in this event.
A little premature to call Paulo Bersamina the next Wesley So.
Wesley So is Wesley So period. He is a natural talent! It’s just like Torre in his time, then we have Wesley now. Maybe in another decade or so, there will be another one like him. They don’t come by bunch.
There are many future Campomanes in this event.
