Lima, Sep. 27 Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) paid homage to national chess team due to its historic performance at the 42nd Chess Olympiad, where the squad ended among the world’s top 10.
At the site, IPD President Saul Barrera granted official diplomas to players for their significant success.
Likewise, he committed to continuing to support such discipline, which brought important victories to the country.
Emilio Cordova, Jorge Cori, Arnaldo Cruz, Miguel Fernandez and Deivy Vera had received this homage. It must be noted Cori grabbed a bronze medal (2nd Board).
The Peruvian squad began competition in the 34th position and finished 10th. On the other hand, the women’s team started at 41st and ended 28th.
Such international competition was held in Baku (Azerbaijan) on September 1-14 and hosted 180 teams from all over the world.

National Men’s team: 7 victories, 2 draws and 2 defeats.
National Women’s team: 2 victories, 2 draws and 3 defeats.
