Whether he’s playing for fun or in an intense competition, Alex Chen is ahead of his game.
Since he learned to play chess almost two years ago, the local 8-year-old whiz has taken his family and fellow chess players by surprise.
Currently, Chen is ranked as the top third-grade chess player in western Pennsylvania.
“He just loves to play,” said his father, Long-Qing Chen. “Every time I come home he wants to play. He’s actually better than me.”
Alex learned to play the game when he was 6 years old from his now-13-year-old sister, Tina. Since then, he has read more than 10 books on the game and frequently plays competitively online to keep his skills sharp.
Here is the full story.
Good luck Alex!
