and white gains two pawns.
In first variation, Black has 2 … Kg6 to escape the immediate mate. It still looks pretty bad for Black, but I haven’t worked out the finish and it’s time to turn in.

Yes, I overlooked Kg6 in that line.

3. Qf7 Kg5
4. Qg7 Kg5/h5
5. Bd3/e2 and the black king gets skewered on the picket fence of the kingside pawns
