Here are some interesting statistics about the SPICE Spring Invitational:
Out of the 30 games played over 10 rounds, 60% were decisive while only 40% were drawn.
Surprisingly, Black won more than White, 18 games versus 12.
The Mongolian GM Dashzegve had the biggest fighting spirit with 484 total moves, followed by Hess 381, Robson 349, Kacheishvili 339, Antal 310 and Gareev 306.
1.e4 was played 17 times while 1.d4 was played 11 times. Only two games started with other moves (one with 1.c4 and one with 1.Nf3)

Surely Robert Hess has achieved his final GM norm … did the other two IMs make it? I am somewhat behind the times on how much of a percentage score is needed to reach qualifying scores. My guess is that the GM norm was a pretty high percentage but I don’t know precisely. Congratulations to Ray Robson on a great second half of the tournament!
