Oldie chess tactic Chess tactic, Puzzle Solving White to move. How should white proceed? Source: ChessToday.net Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
1. Nc7+ Nxc7
2. Rxe7+! Kxe7
3. Qf6+ Ke8
4. Qd8+ checkmate
Clue;
Jettison the white bishop,
Make the Nh3 disappear,
Throwaway the whites pawns-
Now solve the problem.
Logical seems a knight check. I couldn’t make Nf6 work, so I try:
1. Nc7+! Nxc7 (only legal move)
2. Qf6!!
e-pawn pinned, Bc4 active, threats Qxf7#. And black Nc7 may occupy an important K escape field.
A)
2. … Bd7 (Nd7 looked worse)
3. Qxf7+ Kd8
4. Qxf8+ Ne8 (to allow Kc7)
5. Qxc7
is up with material, looks winning.
B)
2. … Be6
3. Rxe6 fxe6 (pretty enforced)
4. Qxe6
still threats Qf7#.
4. … Nd7 (enforced)
5. Qf7+ Kd8
6. Qxf8+ Ne8 (to allow Kc7)
7. Qxc7+ Kc7
8. Qxd7+ Kb6
looks winning.
Anything better that i have missed?
1. Rxe6 fxe6 (1. … Bxe6? 2. Nc7#) 2. Nc7+ Kf7 3. Rf1#
I was too hasty in my analysis above. It’s incorrect. The correct line is:
1. Nc7+! Nxc7 2. Rxe7+! Kxe7 (forced) 3. Qf6+ Ke8 4. Qd8#/Rd8#
Hi,
I’ll try to not be wrong this time :
1. Nc7+ Nxc7
2. Re7+ Kxe7
3. Qf6+ Ke8
4. Bf7#
A bientôt
David (from France)
1. Nc7+ Nxc7
2. Rxe7+ Kxe7
3. Qf6+ Ke8
4. Qd8#
1.Nc7 clears the the way for 2.Rxe7 followed by 3.Qf6 and 4.Qd8#.
1. Nc7+ Nxc7
2. Rxe7+ Kxe7
3. Qf6+ Ke8
4. Rd8# or Qd8#
