A blogger friend just found this French clipping from many years ago. It is me teaching Sofia. I don’t even remember ever seeing this picture until now. Thank you!
Looks like The 640K Super Dos Punch Card X-1960 Analog Board that was discontinued because the tubes kept blowing out.
Sofia was born in 1974, she looks about 6-8 years old on the picture. That would make it just right for Sargon Autoresponse Board for such size chess computer.
You’re probably right, it does look like a Sargon autoresponse board. The pieces look a little different, but then they were likely using the board unpowered as a regular chess board with different pieces.
I agree. Although I don’t know the 640K Super Dos Punch Card X-1960 Analog Board, but I seriously doubt it had LEDs in each square, little lights from below are quite unlikely, because those would burn out real quickly and out of 64 of those, perpetual light bulb change…….well….you know what I mean 🙂
I believe that the nice wooden electronic chess board on the picture is a Prestige Challenger from Fidelity Electronics. I just scanned a picture of that board in a magazine from Oct/Nov 1983.
The photo was used on the front cover of the February 1984 issue of the French chess magazine Europe Echecs. There was also a small article about the Polgar sisters on page 7. – Mark
Ooh, that looks like a very nice autosensory board. I wonder what the name of it is?

Btw: you are so beautiful with long hair!!!!! Ever thought about letting it grow again? 😉
Cheers and thank you for sharing with is!

I have a hard time believing that woman in the photo is Susan Polgar… she has changed quite a bit and I dont’ think it’s just the hair…
You do realize the caption calls you “the old woman”.
