The Ukrainian superstar Vasily Ivanchuk will face Dutch prodigy Anish Giri, 18, in the 26th edition of the Chess Tournament Magistral Ciudad de León, to be held in June 2013, as confirmed to Efe by the Tournament Director Marcelino Sion.
Giri, one of the sensations of the chess world has visited the city of León during this week when he won with his team, Sestao Naturgas, the Spanish Club Championship División de Honor. He has established himself among the best players in the world with 2715 ELO points.
The Dutch player will follow the steps of other young players who came to the Master and dazzled the audience, as the Ukrainian Sergey Karjakin, the Hungarian Peter Leko, the Azerbaijani Teimour Radjabov and, above all, the current number one in the world, the Norwegian Magnus Carlsen.
Anish Giri has an interesting personal story because despite the fact that he plays under the Dutch flag, he’s the son of a Nepalese father and a Russian mother. In addition, he has mastered six languages, including Japanese.
Vassily Ivanchuk will participate for the third time in the city of León, after his victory in 2008 against the current world champion – the Indian Viswanathan Anand, who has the best record in the Master – and his defeat a year later against Carlsen.
Chuky rocks!
Go Chucky!
Oh by the way on the new Chessbase thing on the Grand Prix attack: Appreciate, but told you so, you gotta wait. Play King’s gambit, Vienna, closed sicilian, Grandprix attack, French, Dutch, with endgame in mind, only feign interest in early mate. (I don’t think this will compromise my play!)
