Women’s Zone 2.5 Championship

The Women Zonal Chess Tournament – Zone 2.5 was held from 26th August to 5th September at the headquarters of the Chilean Chess Club. The championship was organized by the Chilean Chess Federation (AJEFECH) in cooperation with the Confederation of Chess for America (FIDE – AMERICA) and sponsored by the Chilean Foundation of Chess.
A total of 16 players, 7 from Chile, 5 from Argentina, 3 from Uruguay and 1 from Paraguay, competed in the 9-round Swiss tournament. IM Carolina Lujan from Argentina justified the top seeded position and won the tournament with 7.5 points, full point ahead of the nearest followers. Lujan qualifies for the 2012 Women’s World Championship in Russia.
WIM Marisa Zuriel (Argentina) and WFM Damila Colombo (Uruguay) shared the second place with 6.5 points each. Colombo also claims her final WIM norm.
Tournament director was Luis Almarza and Chief Arbiter was IA Antonio Bento.
