Today was a day off. The only players I saw at dinner were team Anand (his wife and second Peter Heine Nielsen). They were joined by Hans-Walter Schmitt, organizer of the Chess960 in Mainz.
The matchups for round 9 are:
Viswanathan Anand – Levon Aronian
Alexander Morozevich – Vladimir Kramnik
Peter Leko – Peter Svidler
Alexander Grischuk – Boris Gelfand
Here are the standings:
1. Anand 5.5
2. Gelfand 5.0
3. Kramnik 4.5
4. Leko 4.0
5-6 Grischuk, Aronian 3.5
7-8 Morozevich, Svidler 3.0

Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Anand, Kramnik, Gelfand win Leko Draw
I hope Anand wins it all! Hes a real classy guy and would be good for chess.
Kramnik-Anand on monday is a must win game for the world champion. He has a habit of raising to the occasion. Let’s see how he’ll do this time.
kramnik alone will win in round 9
Anand will draw in few moves (though he shouldn’t do it).
Kramnik would do so, too, but Moro won’t accept. That gives both players the chance to win.
I hope Moro can take revenge for the first round but I fear he will overpush….
So probably Kramnik wins by help of his counterpart.
But I say 1:0 and hope the best. 🙂
Leko-Svidler will draw, too.
The last pairing could get very interesting.
Grischuk wants to recover from 2 losses in a row but I do not think (I do not hope!) that he is going for a quick draw but he again will try to play for everything even with the chance for his third 0.
Gelfand has the chance to draw level wirh Anand today if he wins – so if Grischuk overpushes he will be there, always lurking for a counterattack.
I suspect 1:0 or 0:1.
For the tournament it would be good to see Gelfand head to head with Anand but I though want Grischuk to win.
So I say 1:0 and hope for the best.
