Vietnam to compete at Chess Olympiad

Vietnam will participate in the international chess tournament, Olympiad 2010, which will kick off in Khanty Mansiysk, Russia, from September 9 to October 4.
The Vietnamese team will include International Grand Masters Le Quang Liem who triumphed at the Aeroflot Open last month, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and Dao Thien Hai.
The International Chess Federation predicts that 1,000 masters, men and women, from 135 countries and territories will join the tournament.

Quang Liem jumps 51 spots in world’s rankings |
Nhan Dan – Vietnamese chess master Le Quang Liem jumped 51 spots from 93rd place to stand 42nd in the World Chess Federation’s rankings (FIDE), it was announced on March 1.
Liem also ranks 5th from his former 11th place in the Asian rankings thanks to the gold medal at the 2010 Aeroflot Open Tournament and the bronze at the Moscow Open last month.
This is the highest place a Vietnamese player has ever achieved in the Vietnamese chess history.
He should be 2700 soon.
