Quang Liem wins card to world blitz chess champs
VietNamNet Bridge – Ranking second at the qualifier round in Kazkhstan that closed on July 4, Vietnamese international grand master Le Quang Liem has won a card to the World Blitz Chess Championships 2012.
The competition will be held on July 9-10 in Astana capital of Kazkhstan, with 16 world leading players, including nine top players (based on FIDE’s January 2012 ranking), the champion of the World Blitz Chess Championships 2011, two representatives of the host country, one appointed by FIDE Chair and three winners of the qualifier round.
The 16 players are: Magnus Carlsen (Elo 2835), Teimour Radjabov (2784), Sergey Karjakin (2779), Alexander Morozevich (2769), Vassily Ivanchuk (2764), Alexander Grischuk (2761), Veselin Topalov (2752), Peter Svidler (2741), Boris Gelfand (2727), Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (2726); Viktor Bologan; Rinat Jumabayev (2556), Pavel Kotsur (2548); Dmitry Andreikin (2700), Le Quang Liem (2693), and Nikolai Chadaev (2605).
This list is made on the Elo for blitz chess. Since July 2012, FIDE has applied the new Elo system, under which each player will have three Elo rates for standard chess, rapid chess and blitz chess.
Previously, Quang Liem failed at the qualifier round for the world rapid chess championships, ranking sixth.
From Kazkhstan, coach Lam Minh Chau said that to prepare for the competition, Liem now participate in the Rapid Chess Kazkhstan Open-2012 on July 5-8.
