L to R: GMs Bisguier, me and Denker at Dr. Wagner’s House in Aug. 2003
As the 2006 Denker Tournament of High School Champions and Susan Polgar National Invitational for Girls are approaching, I can’t help but remember a kind and generous man in Arnold Denker.
He was a true champion in his days and he gave so much for young chess players in America. Unfortunately, he passed away last year before the Denker tournament. His son is now continuing his legacy in supporting the annual Denker event.
Arnold was also one of the biggest supporters of the 2004 US Women’s Olympiad Training Program and Team. He helped me fight against chess politicians who did not want this program to exist. Unfortunately, the program was eventually canceled after the team came back with 2 Gold and 2 Silver medals.
“program was eventually canceled after the team came back with 2 Gold and 2 Silver medals”
Do you know why a successful program was cancelled? This is pretty strange, to say the least.
Anonymous, Chess politics…??!
Rest in peace GM Denker!
I salute U.S. Champion Bisguier!!!
