WEST JORDAN — The Utah boy gaining fame for his chess prowess has another win to add to his list.
In his first international competition, 11-year-old Kayden Troff of West Jordan brought home the gold medal from the North American Youth Championship in Mazatlan, Mexico.
Kayden and nine other American youth were selected to compete for the USA. The team came away with four gold medals and two bronze medals. Kayden drew the final match against his USA teammate Jeevan Karamsetty of Virginia after beating the Mexican National Champion in the previous round.
Kayden has won nearly every chess title in the state of Utah and holds the top position on the list of Utah’s active chess players of any age. He has also held the No. 1 position in the USA on the quick chess rating list for under age 13 for the past six months.
