Beijing: Aronian’s first-day results

The first day of the Basque system chess tournament wrapped Tuesday within the framework of the World Mind Games being held in Chinese capital city Beijing.
In his first and second matches in Round 3, Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian—who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the previous World Team Chess champions, Armenia, and who is ranked second in the FIDE ratings—played draws with GM Alexander Grischuk (Russia).
After Round 3, Aronian is fifth, with 3.5 points.
On Wednesday, the last two—fourth and fifth—rounds will be played in the Basque system tournament.
In the first round, Aronian played two matches against GM Anish Giri (Netherlands) and won both matches.
In the first match of Round 2, the Armenian GM drew level with GM Sergey Karjakin (Russia), but lost in the second match.
In Beijing, the Armenian GM is competing in the rapid, blitz, and Basque system chess tournaments.
Levon Aronian’s opponents are GMs Karjakin, Grischuk, Mamedyarov, Dominguez, Ponomariov, Radjabov, Lê Quang Liêm, Wang Hao, Wang Yue, Nepomniachtchi, Vachier-Lagrave, Kamsky, Lékó, Ivanchuk, and Giri.
