Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
well done Gata. Keep it going. I knew you had it in ya.
Gata! Gata! Gata!
Yeah, he got on top of Topalov and never let him up again. A very, very nice, methodical victory the last 15 moves.
Go Gata@
Supreme positional understanding by Old-Soviet-School Gata against opening-preparation-relying Topalov.
Gata came up with a daring and stunning reply to Topalovs opening choice by leaving the King in the center and putting it on f7, while attacking on both wings.
Excellent!
The absence of the white queen on a3 until the bitter end may well end up as a lesson in future opening books how not to play.
Gata love it! Hope topping Topalov becomes a habit.
We Americans love Gata! Go Gata Go!
Well, at least something is stunning here. Maybe Kramnik will learn another opening other than the Catalan? Or maybe he was trying the “double fool” with Rajabov, having Radjabov think he was going to try another opening but then doubled back to the Catalan. Anyway, the effect on the spectator community is pretty poor, how many decades of the Catalan do we need? Kasparov needs to make a comeback, with Carlsen afraid and the guys playing now he would surely win and create some interest in this whole process. Also, what happens after the 4 game match they pull out a roulette wheel or popcorn machine to decide who challenges Anand? Maybe they should make the World Championship four games too and spare us the tedium of it all. This all makes one long for the time of Fischer, Karpov and Kasparov…
This is a very good game. Kamsky is in form!
The ease with which he demolished people in the US Championship and now here, wow. Isn’t he stronger now than in the 1990s?
Topalov’s h4-h5 intimidation was returned with fire.
I certainly hope Gata takes this match.
I miss the days when Susan used to annotate important games like this!

Kamsky is the best! 🙂
Excellent game by Kamsky!
I feel sorry for Topalov and hope he wins, it also wasn’t long ago since he was close to number 1 in the world. I also don’t really like America…
Kamsky Rocks!
….sb noticed, that had we still the USSR then 7 out of the 8 players would be soviets with only one non-soviet player?!
The non-soviet player lost in the second round, btw…
Very strong defence of Gata and reversing the initiative.
Still you sense he will be turned over at some point in the match …
