Go Gata! We’ll stuff the ballots for you! 🙂
I have been watching the tournament and agonizing over the loss of one American GM after another. However, I am elated that the USA might be vindicated if Gata can topple Alexi, the man who brought down two of our best GMs.
Then I wondered, when was the last time an American was three matches away from the World Championship Title? [Gata vs Alexi, Gata vs Topolav, and Gata vs Anand/Kramnik]
Does anyone know the answer?
Bobby Fischer!
Gata Kamsky all the way!
joshua “g”, the last time an American was three matches away was Gata Kamsky himself! I know the there was a division, but he was one match away from the FIDE title (Karpov), and 2 matches from PCA (Kasparov), therefore 3 matches away from being undisputed world champion (in the mid-1990s)!
It’s 53% for Shirov at the moment, but there are less than 250 votes so it’s too early to say that if the fans were right the match is about even.
I do believe Kamsky will win. If not, we must all admit he has performed very well. It will be a very interesting game. If he does win….you never know…he might play (I’m not saying win) but someday play for the WCC.
But, for this match…Kamsky. He’s very prepared.
That pool won’t help him at all :o)
