SOME INTERESTING STUFF ABOUT ULF ANDERSSON
Full Name: Ulf Egordt Andersson
Age: 58 Profession/Occupation: professional chess player
Preferred color: I do not have a preferred color in chess.I only hope that I can play well whatever color I have.
Best ever game: About my best game I do not want to say anything. The other persons can have an opinion on that, if someone whises to do so!
Best ever moment as a chess player: My moments are good when I do not lose.
Worst ever moment: My worst moments are when I lose a game.
Any superstitions before or during a game: I do not have any superstitions I believe.
Favourite piece: I do not have any favourite piece.I sometimes wish that the pieces could move how they wanted themselves! Not only take my orders!
Idol in chess: I have many favourites in chess. All the world champions. Also Korchnoi, Reshevsky, Najdorf, Bronstein and some more players. I am very sorry I cannot mention all of them now.
Idol in life: I have an idol in sport. That is Björn Borg. The Swedish tennis player who became a tennis legend. He was nr.1 in the tennis world for many years!
Best modern chess player: I am very impressed with Anand and Kramnik because they hardly ever lose a game. Topalov is sometimes losing more games, but he has another style, I believe. He wins many very beautiful games. There are a number of other players too, that are excellent players! I do not wish to mention all of them. It would take too much time. Some of them are older and some of them belong to the young generation. Of course, I would count Kasparov, but as we all know he does not want to compete more, as it seems.
Best country: I feel well in most places, but Spain has always been a country where I felt well. The way of living there suits me fine. As a chess player I go to bed late. In Spain I can have a very late dinner, for example. The normal life ends much later in the evening than in other countries. This is one thing that I like! The first time I came to Spain was in 1969! Then I came to Mallorca as a tourist.
Best country to play chess: I like to play everywhere! I am a professional player since 1970. The opportunities as professional player is very good in Spain. It was actually always good opportunities for a professional player in Spain. There are always a lot of tournaments there. That is (I suppose)why many foreign chess players live in Spain, or go to Spain.
Favourite music: I like classical music. Also some pop music as well. I always liked Elton John, still do, will always do!
Favourite meal: My favourite meal is bife de lomo (fillet steak) and bife de chorizo (sirloin rump steak, a typical Argentinian meat cut). In Argentina, of course!
What rule change would you like to see in chess: I have no wish or power to change anything! I think it was during 1985 – 1990 the idea to play with less time became popular. Before we always played with 2 hours and 30 minutes for the first 40 moves. Then the game continued with 16 moves in 1 hour and so on, until the game was ended. Now with less time on the clock, of course it is more difficult conditions. As I mentioned before, I do not mind at all this change. I am glad to participate in the events also with less time on the clock!
Current opening: Nothing to say.
Dream opening: Nothing to say.

It’s curious that the article’s title is “Interesting tidbits about GM Andersson”. I hardly find anything interesting about him, based on his answers.
