The Mitropa Cup 2014 was organized by the Slovak Chess Federation from 22nd to 31st May at the City Hotel Kultura Ruzomberok, Slovakia.
The traditional team championship of Central Europe consisted of two Sections – Open and Women, played by round robin system.
The team of Hungary (GM Ruck Robert 2572, GM Acs Peter2572, GM Hera Imre Jr. 2559, GM Szabo Krisztian 2543, GM Pinter Jozsef 2555) emerged a clear winner in the Men’s Section with 15 points, one point ahead of the runner-up. The second board player GM Peter Acs was the best player in the team, performing 2806 ELO with 8/9 points.
Germany (GM Baramidze David 2610, IM Heimann Andreas 2524, IM Svane Rasmus 2490, IM Berchtenbreiter Maximilian 2409) took the silver with 14 points, leaving the nearest follower full two points behind.
The hosts Slovakia A (GM Markos Jan 2599, GM Michalik Peter 2562, GM Petrik Tomas 2511, IM Jurcik Marian 2469, IM Mazur Stefan 2426) remained third with 12 points.
Italy prevailed in the Women Section. The team of IM Zimina Olga 2355, IM Sedina Elena 2297 and WIM Brunello Marina 2304 shared first place with the team of Germany (WIM Fuchs Judith 2304, WIM Osmanodja Filiz 2271) with 14 points each, full 3 points ahead of the bronze medalist.
Austria (WFM Exler Veronika 2156, WFM Novkovic Julia 2126, Hapala Lisa 2062) remained third with 11 points.
