Where is the trademark ‘Frankho Puzzle’ registered? I could not find it in the Canadian or USA databases.
Isn’t this just the ’15 puzzle’. The Youtube video does not suggest that it is ‘fun’.
I would be interested in the scientific evidence that such puzzles improve the mind. Any sources?
Hi, My name is Frank Ho, the inventor of this wonderful and amazing puzzles. “Frankho Puzzle” is not “officially” registered yet but with my full name as part of this innovative puzzle, the trademark approval is self-evident. With the name itslef now out in the public, it also firstly establishes it as the frist stage of being approved as a “trademark” so the application will be submitted asap.
This puzzle has never been shown on Youtube.
To get children interested in math is not easy, the fact that children are so willing working on math related puzzles is already an “huge” achievement.
How can you have “evidence” to show if they are not even willing working on any “math-related” activities?
Last night, I gave out 5 Frankho puzzles to 2 grade 2’s and one grade 4 and one grade 6. They need some help while they were working on these puzzles but by and large, they “determined” to finish all of them. I was thrilled to see they worked on my puzzles. One grade 4 child could not figure out one so I asked a grade 8 kid to help, he told me that the puzzle did have some trick in it and it took him a few minutes to figure out the clue. Each child spent about 30 minutes worked on those puzzles. I do not need to check their answers, since all answers could be checked by themsleves, they only asked me for help if they could not get the answer.
With chess built in the puzzles, children have to follow chess moves to see interactions and from those interactions to find out clues and from clues to find restrictions placed by “logic” conditions.
It trains children’s visualization, calculation and logic abilities all in one so it is definitely a great puzzle for young kids to sharpen their minds and also at the same tie learn calculations tricks.
I am so happy to see that chess, logic and math can be truly integrated together as one worksheet instead of having chess taught and operated independently from math class.
I expect this math, chess, logic combined puzzles will become a popular math puzzle among school chldren worldwide.
Since this message posted in year 2008, now 7 years has gone by. Since then, we have accumulated many years of teaching experience using this workbook, we do not have to offer anyone scientific proof but our responses from out students — our students love it.
I was wondering the reason why my students love it. My thinking is it is more fun than pure computation drill style of workbooks and yet it requires logic and thinking skills – not to the extent it will cause headaches like some word problems.
Kids feel so proud because for once their parents could not figure out what their kids are doing, My students could turn around to teach their parents at age of 5, you can see the smiles on their moms faces.
