Students win chess tournament prizes

Students of DPS-MIS School won most of the prizes at a chess tournament conducted by the Skills Development Centre.
The prizes were presented to the winners at a function held at the SDC on Friday, where Russian International Master Alexei Khamatgalev was the chief guest. Khamatgalev is currently doing duties at the Qatar Chess Association. Students of the Birla Public School (BPS), the MES Indian School and the Ideal Indian School also put up a good display at the tournament.
General secretary of the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) Habibul Nabi gave away the prizes.A
simultaneous chess exhibition match featuring 30 select players in Qatar and Khamatgalev followed the prize giving ceremony.
Former Indian National B chess player Jaise Joseph supervised the proceedings and Varsha Ajit Kumar compered the programme.
The tournament was organised in association with Sigma Paints.Winners: Under-16 Boys: Satchit Varma (DPS-MIS), Sidharth Sankar (BPS), Likith Ramshetty (DMIS).
Under-13 Boys: Richard Rajesh Kumar (MES), Joseph Shaju (DPS-MIS), Christo John Mathai (BPS), Mohamed Shaheed (Ideal), K C Hanad (BPS), Hari Prasad Ramanathan (DMIS), Bilal Majeed (MES), A Visaakh (BPS).
Under-13 Girls: C Ashwini Priyanka (MES), Anupama Menon (DPS-MIS), Priya Surendran (DPS-MIS).
Under-10 Girls: Samyukta R Prabhu (DPS-MIS), Aaina Maryam (DPS-MIS), Vasundhara Goel (DPS-MIS) and S K Gaayatri (DPS-MIS).
