Spencer Goslan, a freshman at BHS, is the 2007 Rocky Mountain K-12 Chess Champion.
The Berthoud High Spartan’s Chess Club acknowledges the accomplishment of Spencer Golsan, a freshman at BHS, who took home the state champion’s trophy for the ninth grade division at the 2007 Rocky Mountain K-12 Grade Championship.
The competition, held in Colorado Springs on Nov. 17, attracted nearly 100 chess players from across the state.
Organizers awarded championship through seventh place trophies in several divisions in an effort to encourage the growth of chess within the state. Spencer’s state championship follows a first place finish in division D, grades 7-12, at the Colorado State University Invitational held earlier this fall.
Golsan, recently elected as the BHS Spartan’s chess club Vice President, encourages others in our community to participate in upcoming chess-related events. BHS students interested in participating in the chess club or parents of K-12 students desiring more information about upcoming chess events may contact the BHS chess club advisor at advisor@bhspartanchess.org or visit the clubs’ Website at: bhspartanchess.org.
