Marrakech International Chess Tournament
GM Andrei Shchekachev and GM Georg Meier share the first place

The first Marrakech International Chess Tournament was held from 25th June to 1st July in Marrakech, Morocco. 135 players took participation, among them are 37 Grandmasters. Nine rounds according to Swiss system were played, with time control of 75 minutes per player.
The rich prize fund consisted of – 1st: € 4,000 + trophy – 2nd: € 3,000 – 3rd: € 2,000 – 4th: € 1,500 – 5th: 1000 € – 6th: 700 € – 7th: 500 € – 8th: 350 € – 9th: 250 € – 10th: 200 €. In addition, € 1,500 is allocated for special prizes for locals, women and seniors.
GM Georg Meier from Germany was alone on the top before the last round, but then he drew GM Gadir Guseinov, while the French GM Andrei Shchekachev beat GM Victor Mikhalevski and caught up with Meier on the shared first place. Shchekachev was declared champion on better additional criteria.
