GRANDMASTER Eugene Torre will hold a rare simultaneous exhibition to challenge student’s problem solving abilities, critical and strategic thinking in the “Defensor Chess Challenge” starting at 1:30 p.m. today at the Barangay Holy Spirit in Commonwealth, Quezon City.
“We do this to promote chess in the grassroots level,” said Torre, Asia’s first GM who has been the long-time vanguard of Philippine chess.
Torre has also been invited as one of the guests of honor in the first Atty. Edgardo Pamintuan Chess Cup that starts tomorrow at the Marquee Mall Activity Center in Angeles City, Pampanga.
Torre along with Pamintuan, GM Wesley So and National Chess Federation of the Philippines president and chairman Prospero Pichay Jr. will lead the opening rites set at 10:30 a.m.
