GM Ahmed Adly hospitalized in Khanty Mansiysk
Aug 29, 2011
GM Ahmed Adly did not come to his game against Bu Xiangzhi in round 1 of the World Cup. Due to health problems he has been hospitalized in Khanty Mansiysk. The reason for the hospitalization is a kidney stone, which caused consecutive pain, but did not pose danger for the general health of the chess player.
After a successful intervention, Adly will be released from the hospital in the next days. The player does not want to disrupt his schedule and will travel to Mozambique and the Pan African games.
Ahmed Adly is African Champion, World Junior Champion, and many times Egiptian Champion. In his career he has multiple medal wins among which open events and FIDE junior events. Currently he is ranked number 1 in Africa.
The dropout of Adly was the third for this World Cup – first Vladimir Akopian did not arrive in Khanty Mansiysk after he suffered a broken leg, and later Wang Hao was absent from the Chinese delegation due to health problems.
