Moscow hosts tournament in memory of Vugar Gashimov

Third International tournament in memory of Vugar Gashimov was held in the Moscow House of Nationalities.
According to Oxu.Az, the organizer of the event was the Development Fund of the Azerbaijan Culture and the Renaissance.
The chairman of DACR Fund Shamil Tagiyev has delivered a speech. He noted that the purpose of the chess tournament dedicated to the memory of an outstanding person Vugar Gashimov, is to promote chess sport among young people.
In addition, the fund’s director promised that the good tradition of holding such tournament will continue in the future.
The claimant for the chess crown, international grandmaster, world champion in rapid chess Sergey Karjakin spoke about his friendship with Vugar Gashimov. He said he was very proud to take part in the tournament dedicated to the memory of his friend.
In addition, brother Vugar Gashimov Sarhan and CEO of the Russian Federation of Chess Mark Glukhov came to honor the memory of an outstanding chess player.
The tournament was held on the Swiss system in 7 rounds. 70 players aged 8 to 50 years took part in the competition.
As a result of fierce battles, Igor Yakupov became the winner. Dalgan Nyudzhiev became second, and third place went to Ilya Odintsov. The winners received the Vugar Gashimov CUP, medals, prizes and monetary rewards.
During the tournament the world champion in rapid chess Sergey Karjakin and brother Vugar Gashimov Sarhan gave a master-class of simultaneous games on 10 boards.
