Kasparov, Garry – Topalov, Veselin (Hoogovens Wijk aan Zee 1999) presented by Andreas
This was an incredible game between Kasparov and Topalov. It’s White to move. Can you find the best continuation for White?

Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
This is truly a wonderful game. The real knee-buckling move is White’s 24th, but Kasparov’s precise finishing technique is also a joy to behold.
1. c3
1…….. Qxc3
2. Qxb5+ Ka3
3. Ra7+
1… Kxc3
2. Qa3+ Kd2
3. Qb2+ Kd1
4. Bf1 Qxf1
( 4…Qd4 5. Qc2+ Ke1 6. Qe2#)
5. Qc2+ Ke1
6. Re7+
1… Kb3 2. Qa2+ Kxc3 3. Qb2+ Kd3 4. Bf1+
Straightforward.
1. c3+ Kxc3 (forced or else white mates in a few by taking on b5)
2. Qa1+ Kd2 (if 2…Kb4 then 3. Qb2+ and it’s over in a few)
3. Qb2+ Kd1 (if 3…Kd3 then 4. Bf1+ and if 4…Ke3, then 5. Re7+ Kxf3 6.Qg2 mate)
4. Bf1 Rd2
5. Rd7! Rxd7
6. Bxc4 and white wins easily.
To add to my above post, egaion’s second line beginning with Qa3+ doesn’t work because black has Qb3+ to block and exchange queens. Qa1+ is correct.

I am sorry for the wrong line and thanks for the correction, which by the way is a beautiful line.
