FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PRLog (Press Release) – Mar 21, 2011 – (OCEANSIDE, N.Y.) – No sooner had Philip Weiss Auctions closed the books on a huge weekend multi-estate sale March 4-6 than one just as big was being planned for a month later. The firm will host a massive three-day event April 1-3 at its spacious gallery facility, located at #1 Neil Court in Oceanside. Hundreds of quality, fresh-to-the-market lots will cross the block.
…Also offered on Saturday will be the very chess set used by Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky in their legendary 1972 championship match in Reykjavik, Iceland. The set is signed by both men. It had been given in 1972 to the president of the Icelandic Chess Federation. Also sold will be love letters written by Mr. Fischer, a genius and notorious recluse. He died in 2008.
How much is it?
Value should be 50% less because they didn’t set up the pieces right.
Really?
The chessboard of 1972 was made of Italian marble, slate gray and green, treated with acid to avoid the glare.
Or maybe her for “Chess set ” means only the pieces?

ok…I’ll start the bid …US$.01!
has anybody else noticed that the board is set up wrong?
Love Letters?
Those were invoices from Marylyn Young.
Could go for $100,000

The catalogue states that this is the set from the 3rd game, which was played in a back room and would not have been the one made for the event. In this case, it would be the board used for Fischer’s first victory over Spassky in his career.
Any guesses on what it will go for? I’m going to take a guess of $500,000. (And I won’t pay a penny more.)
